Self-Compassion Tip Sheet

lightbulb art with quick tips and families first

Self-Compassion is like having compassion for others. You are kind to yourself and understanding when things get difficult or when you are stressed.

When Can I Do It?

Many self-compassion activities take less than 10 minutes. You can practice them “on-the-job.” Take a self-compassion break when feeling stressed. You can also add them into your daily routine.

How Can I Do It?

Treat Yourself Like a Friend
Think of what you would say to a good friend when they are going through a hard time or feel bad.

Journal or Letter
Write kind words of comfort for yourself. Be understanding of things you feel bad or guilty about.

Supportive Touch
Put your hand over your heart or your stomach and take 3 deep breaths.

Changing Critical Self-Thoughts
Notice negative things you say to yourself. Try to change negative thoughts by saying “I disagree” and identifying positives.
